Step 1: Unscrew the housing lid
Step 2: Fill the lantern three-quarters of the way full with kerosene oil
Step 3: Screw down the wick by turning the key on the side of the lantern. No wick should be visible above the rim of the oil container.
Step 4: Saturate the wick completely in the lantern oil for 20 to 30 minutes. To know when your lamp is ready , look at the white fibers of the wick. They will become darker as the oil is absorbed.
Step 5: Turn the key on the lantern, moving the wick a half to one inch above the burner tube. Trim away any previously burned wick and readjust the height if necessary.
Step 6: Use a long match to light the wick.
Step 7: Remove the match and blow it out. Close the lantern
Step 8: Monitor the lantern for smoke. If your lantern is too smoky, lower the wick slightly. If y our flame smolders out, raise the wick slightly.
